Abstract
574,498. Electr:c soldering-irons. WILSON, J. M., and EPSEM, Ltd. Feb. 3, 1944, No. 1989. [Class 39 (iii)] A copper bit a is heated by the heat generated at the point of a graphite rod h, insulated except at the point by a sleeve g. Two studs e project from the bit for the attachment of a handle f. A metal block i is insulated from the studs e by bushes j, and carries a rod k which engages the rear end of the graphite rod h. An insulating disc l is secured to the block i by a screw m and the studs e pass freely through it to a metal block n. This block is secured to a shank o which carries a handle f. A screw r is adapted to apply pressure through a spring s and pistons t, v to the rod h. The tool is heated by inserting it into a container w, current being supplied through spring contacts x pressing on the metal block n, or on the bit a as at x<1>, and on the metal block i. In a modification. the block i may be arranged to slide on a single central rod extending from the bit a, and two laterally spaced graphite rods may be ,used for heating the bit.
