Abstract
499,560. Woven fabrics. WOLFF, T. April 21, 193S, No. 11924. [Class 142 (iv)] A material for men's and boys' suits comprises two lengths identical in design, but that for the trousers is stronger than that used for the jacket &c. and has threads of greater ply in one direction than the other, e.g. two and three ply threads 1a, 2a, Fig. 2. The other length has threads of equal ply. The threads of greater ply may have finer constituent yarns than the threads of lesser ply so as not to be appreciably thicker. The two lengths are subjected to a common finishing treatment, which may comprise treatment in a bath &c. 3 for removal of size or glue, treatment in dyeing and rinsing vats 4, 5, passage between rollers 6 and treatment in a drier 7 a steaming or conditioning apparatus 8 moistening at 9, treatment in a calender 10 and winding on a drum 11. Previously dyed yarns may be used. The fabric may be woven in one or two lengths. In the former case, after weaving say 210 yards with threads of equal ply, the weft threads are replaced by others of greater ply, or the warp threads are replaced by others of greater ply. In the latter case, the warp threads may be joined up in the required lengths of different plies previous to beaming. The fabric may be entirely woollen or may include cotton &c. Examples wherein worsted threads are used are given. Three, four, and five ply threads may be used. Untwisted warp and weft threads may be used.
