Abstract
457,919. Delivering articles from shoots. SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G., 2, Central Buildings, Westminster, and CHRYSTAL, J. M., Kingston Mill, Bradfordon-Avon. May 3, 1935, No. 29621/36. Divided out of 457,881, [Group II]. [Class 78 (i)] In an apparatus for sorting tennis balls and other spherical objects according to size as described in Specifications 457,881 and 457,920, [Group II], the balls are conveyed from a hopper 2 to the sorting device 1 by an inclined shoot 3, provided with a movable base 31 which is given a jerky reciprocating movement to dislodge any balls which tend to stop in the shoot. The movement of the base is obtained from the motor shaft 16 through an eccentric 35, yielding connection 70, and crank-shaft 36. The latter is connected by a cable 37 to the movable base 31 through a pin-and-slot connection 40, the base moving against the action of a spring 38. The balls are delivered singly by pistons 7 from the inclined base of the hopper 2 to the feeding ends of the shoots 3 and are delivered singly from the other ends of the shoots by hinged traps 5, 6, Fig. 3, lowered alternately to permit escape by gravity by linkage 43 45 operated from the shaft 32. The latter shaft also carries members 60, 61 adapted to knock up any balls on the grading shoot 1 which fail to pass any particular aperture and thus free them to roll on to the succeeding aperture of larger size.
