TINTTED %TATE% PATENT @FFTQE ARTHUR C. BARNES, 0F BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
GAME.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Anrnun C. BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in games, and has for its object to provide a game of such aconstruction that when not being operated may be used as a table.
The invention consists of the novel co struction and arrangement of the parts and.
combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure l is a plan view of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view of the operating mechanism for discharging the balls.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of Fig. 3, on the line XX.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates a table having legs 2. The upper surface of the table is provided with a piece 3 extending along one site around one end and down the opposite side part of the length of the table forming the ball runway 4:. The table is also provided on its upper surface with a piece 5 against which the balls strike when leaving the run-way i, and an adjustable piece 6, which latter is adapted to swing on the pivot 7, and is held in the desired adjusted position by the setscrews 8. The upper surface of the table is also provided with a. number of apertures 9 for the reception of the balls as they are discharged, and which may be numbered for the purpose of counting the game. The discharge mechanism is arranged in the end of the run-way a under the cover 10, and consists of a stationary frame 11 in which are mounted two rods 12 provided with a crosspiece 13 pinned to said rods 12 at 1 1. Surrounding the rods 12 between one end of the frame 11 and the cross-piece 13 are coiled springs 15. The said cross-piece 13 is also provided with a pin 16 projecting below it,

end of which is beveled. The provided with a handle 18 at the side of the table, and a cam 19 projecting upwardly in front of said pin 16. V7 hen the handle 18 is forced down the cam 19 strikes against the pin 16 forcing the cross-piece 13 back against the action of the spring 15 carrying with it the rods 12 and the buffer 20 on their outer ends. When the Cam passes the pin 16 the latter will be released and the cross-piece l3 and rods 12 will be forced forward by the action of said springs 15 causing the bufier 20 to strike the ball which rests in the run-way, causing it to be forced around said runway and up to the apertures 9, the angle on which the balls are to be thrown up to said apertures being governed by said adjustable piece 6. The buffer 20 is provided with a rubber piece 21 on its striking surface, and is held to the rods 12 by the toggle joints 22 which latter have one end secured to said buffer and the other end secured to a cross-piece 23 secured to said rods 12. The ends of the rods 12 project into apertures 24 in the rear of the buffer 20. A spring 25 connecting the buffer and said cross-piece 23 holds the buffer 20 to its normal position. When the bufier 20 is released, as described, the toggle joints 22 allow the bufier to advance against the action of the spring 25 until said toggle joints straighten out giving a somewhat harder blow to the ball in the run-way.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
l. A ame comprising a base having a number of apertures therein, a run-way extending across one side, around one end and along part of the opposite side, a curved piece adjacent the opening of said run-way, a bufier mounted in said run-way, a shaft mounted under said base and having a handle on one end thereof, a cam on said shaft, and means connecting the buffer with said shaft whereby when the handle is forced downthe buffer will be operated -to discharge the ball from the run-way.
2. A game comprising a table having a number of apertures in its upper surface, a runway extending along one side, around one end and along part of the opposite side of the table, an adjustable piece against the lower sha't 17 is which the balls strike when. leaving the runway, 2, buffer mounted in said run-Way, a statlonary frame secured under said table two rods mounted in said stationary frame and having a cross piece thereon, a coiled. spring sui'rsunciinp; each of said two rods between the said frame and cross-piece, a shaft mounted under said table and having a hendle on one end, a, pin projecting from said e15 351K335 L cross-piece, flDC i a, cam on said shaft which eoepemtes with said pin for operating the said bufter.
In testimony whereof I zit-iii}: my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
