455,105. Yielding chain wheels. O'GORMAN, T., 43, Hollybank Avenue, Ranelagh, Dublin. Sept. 19, 1935, No. 26016. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] A velocipede transmission system in which the drive is transmitted by acrank, sprocket wheel and chain has a number of relatively short inwardly projecting lugs 2 terminated by an arcuate member 3 of I-section mounted on the rim 1 of the sprocket wheel and relatively long arms 7 on the driving crank slidably connected to the members 3, springs 11 positioned between the arms and the lugs providing resilient driving means. Secondary weaker springs 12 are provided on the opposite side of the arms 7 to take the recoil. The springs 11, 12 are positioned by pins 9 on the arms 7 and pins 4, 5 on the lugs 2, the pins 5 being adjustable to vary the tension of the springs. Two annular plates 10 are secured to the arms 7 and slidably engage the members 3, bolts 15 on the plates passing through arcuate slots 16 in the members 3. Coiled steel or rubber springs may be employed.
