Abstract

A catalyst for the water-gas reaction consists of an iron compound, e.g. ferric hydroxide, an activating alkali metal compound, e.g. potassium carbonate, and a water-eliminating binder, e.g. cement. The iron compound and the binder are loosely mixed and shaped into spheres without pressure, e.g. in a revolving drum. The activator may be mixed with the other ingredients, but preferably the whole or a part of it is applied in solution as an impregnating agent after the shaping of the mixture. The amount of activator is preferably at least 5 per cent.
