Abstract

294,857. Steinmann. H. Feb. 20, 1928. Projectiles.-A projectile or bullet intended for use particularly against aircraft consists of a smooth solid rod of hard metal, preferably cylindrical, of slightly smaller diameter than that of the bore of the gun, of ordinary type, from which it is fired, and of a length double, or more, than double, that of the projectiles usually used in such guns. The projectile is intended to topple in its trajectory, instead of remaining tangential thereto, so as to be effective over a wide area when it strikes a target broadside on. With a gun of 8 mm. calibre, the projectile may be 8 to 10 cms. long, but it is stated that longer projectiles may be used, for example up to 15 cms.
