A device for whipping cream comprises a hollow body (2) having at least one hollow arm (3), of which one end (4) is formed with air outlet apertures (5), the hollow body accommodating an impeller wheel (6) to produce an air stream, which impeller wheel is adapted to be driven by a drive unit (20) with a speed lower than that of the hollow body. <IMAGE>

A DEVICE FCR WHIPPING C4 The invention relates to a device for whipping cream comprising a hollow body having at least one hollow arm which has one end formed with air outlet apertures, which hollow body is constructed to be driven by a drive unit.
Such a device is knawn from DE-U-1,903,673. To make whipped cream air must be introduced into the mass to be whipped. A forced-air stream is produced to speed up the whipping process.
The drive unit described in DE-U-1,903,673 comprises a motor, which drives an impeller wheel to produce an air stream. The air stream is fed to the hollow body of the whipper and is injected into the cream to be whipped via the outlet apertures.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device for whipping cream which can be used as an attachment for a more universal drive unit such as a kitchen appliance or food processor, and which yet enables a forced-air supply to be used.
According to the present invention, there is provided a device for whipping cream comprising a hollow body having at least one hollow arm which has one end formed with air outlet apertures, which hollow body is constructed to be driven by a drive unit and accommodates an impeller wheel which is adapted to be driven by the drive unit sith a speed higher than that of the hollow body.
The hollow body and the impeller wheel may each be adapted to be driven by a separate shaft of the drive unit. Such a drive unit has, for example, two concentric drive shafts with different speeds.
If the drive unit comprises only one drive shaft a transmission mechanism may be arranged in the hollow body. The drive shaft may then, for example, drive the impeller wheel directly with a high speed, the same drive shaft driving the hollow body with a low speed via a reduction mechanism, for example by means of gear wheels.
In order to promote the whipping process the end of each hollow arm may be provided with a wire-mesh whipping element.
Emtidiments of the invention will now be described in are detail, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows a device for whipping cream driven by a kitchen appliance having two drive shafts; and
Figure 2 shows a device for whipping cream driven by a single drive shaft.
The device for whipping cream comprises a hollow body 2 having two downwardly directed hollow arms 3. The free ends 4 of the arms are formed with a plurality of air-outlet apertures 5.
In accordance with the invention an impeller wheel 6 is arranged in the hollow body 2 to produce an air stream. The air stream is drawn in through a central inlet opening 7 and is blown into the mass to be whipped via the outlet apertures 5. The device is constructed as an attachment for a kitchen appliance comprising a drive unit 20 having a container 21.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 1 the drive unit comprises two concentric drive shafts 22, 23. The impeller wheel 6 is driven by the inner shaft 22, which has a high speed, for example 2000 r.p.m. The outer shaft 23 drives the hollow body 2 with a low speed, for example 400 r.p.m. When the whipper attachment is fitted coupling to the drive shafts is established automatically in knows manner.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 2 the drive unit 20 comprises only one drive shaft 22. The hollow body 2 accommodates a transmission mechanism 10, comprising a sun wheel 11 and two or three planet wheels 12. Both the impeller wheel 6 and the sun wheel 11 are coupled directly to the drive shaft 22.
The planet wheels are journalled in a stationary supporting plate 13. The supporting plate is locked against rotation, for example by means of a non-round coupling, to an upper rim of an upright tubular portion 24 of the container 21. The planet wheels drive the hollow body 2. For this purpose the hollow body is formed with inner teeth 14. By a suitably selected ratio for the gear wheels of the transmission mechanism the speed of the hollow body 2 can be four to five times lower than that of the impeller wheel 6.
For a further improvement of the whipping process the ends 4 of the hollow arms 3 may be provided with a wire-mesh whipping element 8.
Claims (5)
1. A device for whipping cream comprising a hollow body having at least one hollow arm which has one end formed with air outlet apertures, which hollow body is constructed to be driven by a drive unit and acccHrmodates an impeller wheel which is adapted to be driven by the drive unit with a speed higher than that of the hollow body.
2. A device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the hollow body and the impeller wheel are each adapted to be driven by a separate shaft of the drive unit.
3. A device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a transmission mechanism is arranged in the hollow body.
4. A device as claimed in Claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the end of each hollow arm is provided with a wire-mesh whipping element.
5. A device for whipping cream substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figure 1 or Figure 2 of the accompanying drawings.
