Abstract

An apparatus for filling single or multi-walled sacks, comprises a nozzle (1) which may be introduced into the sack, and an outer device (2) provided in order that the sack (21) be sealingly pressed against the nozzle, the nozzle having at least one fluid inlet (8) and at least one fluid outlet (9) for the feeding- in and discharge of fluid into and out of the sack, whereby the sack wall will be placed under tension so that material can fill the sack without the formation of folds therein. The nozzle and/or outer device 2 is/are vertically movable together to clamp the sack, and movable apart during filling to allow part of the sack to slide down from between the nozzle 1 and device 2. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION An apparatus for filling single or multi-walled packages Technical problem The present invention relates to an apparatus for filling single or multi-walled packages, for example sacks (large sacks), bags etc.
The state of the art The handling of bulk material, for example pellets, granules, powder etc. in large sacks of the single or multi-walled type has in recent times increased steadily in scope and thereby the problems involved in the handling of large sacks have become steadily more manifest. In particular in conjunction with the filling and emptying of large sacks, problems in the working environment will be great. This is particularly manifest in the handling of pulverulent material of small particle size in multiple use or return sacks, since the risks of inhalation of the powder particles are particularly great in such contexts. Apart from the working environment problems, it has proved to be associated with great inconvenience in filling large sacks to full volume without the formation of folds. The object of the present invention is to realise an apparatus which, without serious working environmental problems, makes possible the complete and rapid filling of packages, primarily large sacks.
Solution According to the present invention, the abovedisclosed technical problem is solved and the aboveoutlined object is attained in that a nozzle may be introduced into the package, that an outer device is provided in order that the package be sealingly urged against the nozzle and that the nozzle has at least one fluid inlet and at least one fluid outlet for feeding in and discharging fluid into and out of the package, whereby the package is placed under tension such that material can fill the package without the formation of folds.
Advantages As a result of the present invention, a sealed filling of large sacks of different types without the formation of folds and the discharge of environmentally dangerous particles into the air at the working site are now made possible.
Description of the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a schematicside elevation of one embodiment of an apparatus according to the present invention. Figure 2 is a schematic side elevation on a reduced scale of the embodiment of Figure 1 while during the filling of a large sack.
Figure 3 is a schematic plan view of the embodiments of Figure 1, certain parts having been omitted for purposes of clarity.
One embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the Drawings.
The apparatus consists of a nozzle 1 and an outer funnel 2. The nozzle 1 has a frusto-conical discharge portion 3 which, with play, surrounds a nozzle pipe 4.
The nozzle pipe 4 includes a regulating device in the form of a throttle 5 and is, by the intermediary of a flange 6, connectible to a discharge or advancement device in the form of, for example, a feeding screw or the like (not shown). The frusto-conical discharge portion 3 is provided with a cover 7 which sealingly surrounds the nozzle pipe 4. In the cover 7, there are provided a fluid inlet pipe 8 and a fluid outlet pipe 9.
The fluid may suitably be air. The inlet pipe 8 has a regulating throttle 10 and the outlet pipe 9 has a regulating throttle 11. When the fluid is air, the inlet pipe 8 may be connected to a normal fan or extent ventilation system. On the outside ofthefrusto- conical discharge portion may be provided means for facilitating friction and/or sealing, or solely sealing, for example, a rubber-like material.
The outer funnel 2 has a frusto-conical inlet portion 12 in which the frusto-conical discharge portion 3 fits. The inlet portion 12 may, on the inside, be provided with means for facilitating friction and/or sealing, or solely sealing, for example a rubber-like material. The frusto-conical inlet portion 12 merges into a tubular outlet portion 13 and in the transition between the two portions 12 and 13 there are disposed lifting means 14. In these lifting means 14there are fixedly disposed cables or wires 15 and 16 which may be wound up on drums 17 and 18 which are fixedly mounted on a common shaft 19.
The shaft 19 is coupled to a drive means 20.
Figure 2 shows in greater detail how a large sack 21 of the disposable type is filled by means of the apparatus according to the present invention. The large sack 21 has an inner portion and an outer portion and the inner portion is drawn up into the outer funnel 2 so that the discharge portion 3 and the nozzle pipe 4 may be introduced into the inner portion. This will be sealingly pressed against the nozzle portion or discharge portion 3 in that the outer funnel 2 is lifted by means of the cables 15, 16.
Thereafter, fluid, preferably air, is fed into the inner portion through the inlet pipe 8 via the throttle 10 by means of which air the inner portion of the large sack 21 is inflated and its wall is smoothed out. The fed-in air is released through the outlet pipe 9 via its throttle 11. After inflation of the inner portion, material filling may be commenced by opening of the regulating throttle 5.
After filling of the inner portion of the large sack 21 to a certain degree, the throttle 5 is closed and the outer funnel 2 is lowered by means of the cables 15 and 16, whereupon the inner portion of the large sack 21 is allowed to slide between the funnel 2 and the nozzle 1,this procedure being then repeated. In this manner, fold formation in the sack is avoided.
The large sack 21 can, during the filling operation, be placed on a raisable and lowerable platform or be held upright by means of a fork lift truck or the like.
Instead of raising and lowering the outer funnel 2, the funnel 2 may be fixed; the nozzle 1 may additionally or alternatively be raisable and lowerable by means of a fundamentally similar device to that described for the funnel 2.
If the discharge pipe 4 is filled with material by means of a feeder screw, this is to be stopped when the throttle 5 is open, and vice versa.
