Abstract

An automatic adjustment mechanism for servo-brakes has elements (14', 12', 11, 12, 14) for transmitting thrust between brake shoes and in response to excessive movement in either direction a nut (12 or 12') is rotated on a screw (14 or 14') by a ratchet tooth system (15 or 15') to extend the mechanism. To render the adjustment independent of the direction one of two rings (19 and 19'), say 19, is in one direction carried with a sleeve (11), but the other ring 19' is stopped by an abutment (21') on the housing (10). A pin (24) on the ring (19') penetrates a slot (25') in the sleeve (11) and a slot (27') in a ring (15') which forms part of the ratchet tooth system one slot being axial and the other being oblique. When the ring (19') is stopped by the abutment (21') on the housing (10) the ring (15') is rotated by the pin (24') and when the sleeve (11) returns nut (12') is rotated by ring (15'). A manually operated readjusting mechanism includes a shaft (32), gear wheel (33) crown wheel (22) to rotate the sleeve (11). <IMAGE>
