Abstract

In a vehicle disc brake at least one friction disc 7 which is rotatable with a shaft 1 is adapted to be moved into engagement with a surface 10 of a housing 2 by an actuating mechanism. The actuating mechanism comprises a rotatable actuator member 14, a non- rotatable reaction member 15, and balls 17 located in oppositely inclined recesses 18 in adjacent faces of the members so that, when the actuator member 14 is moved angularly, the brakes 17 tend to move out of the recesses to urge the members relatively apart in an axial direction. The actuator member 14 is angularly movable for service braking by an hydraulic actuator 21 which acts on a radial projection 25 on the actuator member 14. Provision is also made for manual control of the actuator member 14. <IMAGE>
