Abstract

The valve includes a closure member- wedge assembly (30) with closure members (36, 38) engaging tapering faces (33, 34) of a wedge (32). Guide rails (60, 61) engaged by grooves (67) on the wedge extend longitudinally into the fluid passageway and terminate at ramps (64). The wedge (32) has transverse locking notches (76) which receive actuating rollers (73) in engagement with supporting surfaces of the closure members (36, 38). When the rollers (73) are in the locking notches (76) of the wedge (32) and engage the longitudinal edges of the guide rails (60, 61) they serve to lock the closure members (36, 38) to the wedge (32) thereby precluding lateral movement of the closure members (36, 38) during movement of the assembly between open and closed positions when the rollers (73) unlock the closure members (36, 38) from the wedge (32) by moving out of the locking notches (76) and out of contact with the rails (60, 61) due to the ramps (64) the wedge can move relative the closure members to force them sealingly against the valve ports, the closure members being restrained from further longitudinal movement by engagement with pins (78, 79). <IMAGE>
