Abstract

A latched needle comprising an elongate shank portion 10 at one end of which is a hook portion 11 having a pivotal latch element 12 movable between open and closed positions with respect to the mouth of the hook portion, a butt portion 14 projecting laterally from the shank portion adjacent to the opposite end of the latter, that part of the shank portion 17 which is opposite to the butt portion having a cross-section in a plane normal to the longitudinal axis of the needle which tapers towards the rear edge of the needle from the full thickness of the shank portion. The taper may or may not be symmetrical. <IMAGE>
