Abstract

179,216. Meurer, N. Nov. 27, 1920. Enamelling, vitreous.-In the enamelling of metal, ceramic, or other heat-resisting articles by spraying enamels, glass, or mixture rich in quartz on to the articles by means of gases under pressure, the coating-material being forced through a powerful flame, the heated surface of the article is heated by the spraying-jet to the fusing-temperature of the coating-material, and the flame that effects the melting and heating has a reducing action to prevent oxidation. The coating- material is contained in a vessel 1 connected by a hollow handle 2 to the nozzle body 3. Fuel under pressure is supplied through a nipple 4. and compressed oxygen or air through a second nipple 4a. The fuel passes through a cock 11 into a chamber 5. The oxygen &c. passes through an adjustable valve 9 and on through a duct 7, and mixes with the fuel at the valve 16, 17. A supply of oxygen also passes through a cock 14, up through the handle 2, and into the chamber 1 through openings 29 in the base. The coating- material, agitated by the oxygen &c., passes on through an adjustable central valve 31 and down through a duct 32 into the nozzle. The fuel and oxygen &c. issuing from the valve 16, 17 carry the coating material along, accelerating its motion, on through the removable nozzle 21. A supply of fuel is also passed into a second nozzle 23 surrounding the nozzle 21. The valve 9 and duct 7 are mounted in a screwed-in insertion piece 6. The parts 19, 20 forming the duct 18 leading to the nozzle 21 are readily removable. The supply of oxygen &c. is regulated to give a reducing flame.
