Abstract

In a steel making furnace, the charge is melted by a burner in which liquid fuel is atomized by oxygen, or a mixture of oxygen and air and/or steam. Oxygen of 99.5% purity may be used. The fuel supply is cut off and the pressure of the oxygen or oxygen mixture supply is increased during the refining period.
