Abstract

Shoe collectors.-A contact-shoe 1 operates at two distinct levels for over-contact or undercontact conductors, and is normally maintained in a mid-position by a spring 15 which tends to resist movement to the down-position. The shoe 1 is integral with an arm 2 secured at 3 to the vertical side 4 of a parallel frame 4, 5, 6, 7. The spring 15 is contained in a casing 11 which is secured to the beam 10 together with the side 7, and engages the flange of a plunger 14 provided with a spherical seating for a washer 13 on a bolt 12 carried by the arm 6. A spring 16 may be used to prevent chattering and assist the downward movement of the shoe 1, but the spring 15 must be the stronger. Lock-nuts 20 and washers 21 adjust the normal position of the shoe 1. The shoe 1 and arm 2 should be weaker than the parallel frame so as to break on meeting an obstruction without damaging the frame. The ends of the shoe may be chamfered.
