Abstract
1523640 Gas turbine plant; turbine rotors UNITED TURBINE AB & CO KB - 24 Dec 1975 52911/75 Headings F1G and FIT [Also in Division F2] In a gas turbine plant having a separate power turbine, a further, ceramic-bladed, turbine is disposed immediately downstream of a combustion chamber and is made too small to alone supply the power required by the compressor, mechanical assistance means being provided. Stresses in the ceramic turbine are thus reduced. In one arrangement, Fig. 3, a ceramic compressor driving turbine 16 is assisted by the power turbine 17 via gearing 19, 22, freewheel 20 and infinitely variable transmission 21. In another arrangement, Fig. 13, the asssitance is provided by a second ceramic turbine 81b on the same shaft as compressor 80 and turbine 81a. Other arrangements are described involving axial and/or radial flow compressors, twin spools, rotary regenerators, adjustable guide vanes and air bearings. In Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) the ceramic turbine (32) is clamped to the hollow metal compressor driving shaft (31) by a through rod (33) having at one end resilient fingers engaging a stub shaft (46) on the turbine, slots (31a) being provided for cooling air.
