Abstract
1435687 Gas turbine plant R S DE CHAIR 6 Feb 1973 [26 Nov 1971(2) 2 Dec 1971 9 Feb 1972] 55022/71 56018/71 55021/71 and 6158/72 Headings F1G and F1L A combustion gas generator comprises a rotor 1 having blades 5 shaped to provide inlet passages i, combustion sections c, and exhaust or turbine passages e, and a compressor 6 having blades 3 arranged upstream of the rotor 1 and rotating in the opposite direction thereto. The compressor 6 is mounted on a shaft 8 fast with a turbine rotor 7 driven by gases discharging from the rotor 1. Two compressors (14), Fig. 4, (not shown), 6, may be driven by two turbine rotors (15) 7. Fuel may be fed into the air from nozzles 40. In Figs. 8A to 9, (not shown), each blade 5 of the rotor 1 is replaced by a pair of axially spaced blades (22), (28) either or both of which may be fast with the surrounding housing which rotates therewith. The blades (22) are shaped to cause supersonic compression of the inlet air, and are formed with fuel inlets (23), (24) on or adjacent their trailing edges. A circumferential wall baffle (27) stabilizes the position of ignition in the combustion chambers, and it may be formed partially by nozzles (31), Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), forming part of a fluid impingement type starter system in which jets of gas from the nozzles are directed on to blades (28). Again, the fuel may be fed through holes in the rotor hub, and may be utilized to cool the blades (22), (28) and hub by being supplied via passageways adjacent the surfaces to be cooled.
