Abstract

1516470 Slitting bags FIAT SpA 9 Aug 1976 [29 Aug 1975] 33095/76 Heading B8C A method of opening bags comprises placing the bags 33 between two facing conveyers 3, 18 which are inclined to one another such that the space between them reduces in the direction of advance of bags between them to apply compressive force to the bags, the conveyers driving the bags on to the pointed end of an elongate support member 20 and into contact with a saw 29, whereby to cut open the bags and allow their contents to fall away whilst retaining the bags on the support member 20. As described bags 33 of domestic refuse are advanced by resilient ridges 32 on the belts 3, 18 which have a common drive. The bags are cut by a power driven circular saw 29 whilst impaled on a rod or fork 20 supported releasably on a tripod 22. The contents of the bags fall into a hopper 31.
