Abstract

1516210 Pipe couplings COMPAGNIE MARITIME D'EXPERTISES-COMEX 12 Dec 1975 [7 Jan 1975 21 March 1975] 51024/75 Heading F2G In a pipe joint 4, 5, Fig. 1, having a male spigot portion 2 and a female socket 3 a mandrel 10 composed of at least two radially displaceable jaws clampingly engages the rear of the spigot portion 2 and is actuated by a toothed ring 15 tangentially-engaged by a worm 17. The ring 15 is also internally screwthreaded and actuates a sleeve 11 to displace some axially into wedging contact with the mandrel. The members 15, 11, 10 are mounted in a two-part casing 6, 7 which defines an oil chamber 21 for the moving parts. The ring 15 is prevented from rotating in the socket 3 by a key 1 la and interengaging means (11b, 11c) between one of the jaws of the mandrel and the sleeve 11 permits positive release of the parts, see Fig. 2 (not shown). The inner surface of the ring 15 may be provided with camming surfaces interengaging with like cam surfaces on the mandrel, see Figs. 3, 4 and 6 (not shown). Again, the mandrel jaws (64c) may be separated by abutment spacers (80) which limit the opening of the jaws, see Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). For numerous minor modifications the Specification and remaining drawings should be referred to.
