Abstract

A pipe coupling comprises a plug and socket assembly, the assembly having an elongate plug member (12) in the form of a sleeve which co- operates with the socket member (10), wherein it engages in axial and circumferential sealing relationship by means of seals (34, 36). Resilient catch means (50) are associated with the socket member (10) for engaging complementary recess means (30) in the plug member (12). Locking means (60) act on said catch means (50) to lock the catch means positively in said recess means when said catch and recess are interengaged. Actuating means are provided in the form of hydraulic rams (68) for said locking means operable from a remote position. Guide means are provided in the form of a conical guide (20) for alignment of the plug and socket members. <IMAGE>
