Abstract
1,233,366. Pipe couplings. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. 13 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 42276/67. Heading F2G. A coupling for connecting together the bore in a pipe 1 and another bore, e.g. in a pipe 2, comprises an externally, circumferentiallyribbed mandrel 3 which is a tight fit in the two bores, a sleeve 4 having a smooth internal surface which is a tight fit on the exterior of the pipe to sandwich the pipe wall between the mandrel and the sleeve to press the ribbed surface into sealing engagement with the inner surface of the pipe, and a sealing ring 5 between the end of the pipe and an opposing surface. The ring 5 may be circular or rectangular in crosssection, and in the latter case the ends of the pipes do not abut as in Fig. 1. In modifications, (a) a pipe 11 (Fig. 3), is recessed to receive a sealing ring 16 and engaged on a mandrel 13 having a buttress thread 13B, the mandrel being secured by the ribbed portion 13A thereof in the bore 18 of a component 17 of metal or plastics, and (b) sealing rings are disposed between a chamfer at the mouth of the bore 18 and a flange on the mandrel, and between the flange and a chamfer at and inside the end of the pipe bore.
