Abstract

1514471 Lintels WESTLAND ENGS Ltd 13 Oct 1975 [7 Aug 1974] 34881/74 Heading E1K A lintel of trapezoidal section for use over apertures in cavity walls comprises a first longitudinally extending horizontal part 12 arranged to support courses of building units forming part of the inner skin 22, a second longitudinally extending horizontal part 13 parallel to the first horizontal part and arranged to span the cavity and to be supported at each end by courses forming parts of the outer and inner skins of the cavity wall adjacent the aperture, an inclined side part 14 extending downwardly and forwardly from or near the front edge adjacent to the cavity of the first horizontal part and joining with the second horizontal part at an intermediate position between the front and rear edges of the second horizontal part and arranged to extend across the cavity, and a second inclined side part 15 extending downwardly and rearwardly from or near the rear edge of the first horizontal part to join with the second part at or near its rear edge. The lintel may be integrally formed from a single sheet of material e.g. pre-galvanised steel sheet, as in Fig. 1, or may be manufactured from two sheets of material joined together as in Figs. 2 and 3.
