Abstract

1505068 Discharging from hoppers HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO Ltd 14 May 1975 [20 May 1974] 22482/74 Heading B8S [Also in Division D1] A hopper has two opposed sloping walls 14 defining a discharge slot 7 and having porous membranes 20 through which air is passed at a pressure sufficient only to levitate the powder adjacent the walls 14 but not fluidize all the powder. Discharged powder falls on to a rotary drum 4 and is scraped therefrom by a blade 22 to drop through an electrostatic dispenser 5 to coat an elongate strip 6. Excess powder is collected by a conveyer 27 and fed to a trough 2, having a fluidizing membrane 12, for return to the hopper. To cope with strips of varying widths the hopper is compartmented and compartments can be rendered inoperative.
