Abstract

The weaving machine has a guide (4) for one or more weft-thread grippers (3), which extends through the shed and which forms a continuous path. Arranged at one side end of the shed is a throwing device (6) for the gripper or grippers (3), which comprises a circular portion (16) of the guide (4), in which circular portion rotates a flywheel (15) provided with take-up devices for the gripper or grippers (3). The circular portion (16) is connected to a throwing and a return portion (5 and 4c) of the guide (4), flaps being arranged in the region of the entry points. Each gripper (3) is accelerated to the desired throwing speed by rotation once or more times in the circular guide portion (16) and is then thrown out by opening the corresponding flap. In the weaving machine, an energy saving is achieved, since the or each gripper (3) runs, without stopping, in a continuous path, and vibrations caused by the sudden stopping of the gripper or grippers (3) at the end of the shed are also avoided. <IMAGE>
