1434525 Yarn heaters, rollers PLATT SACO LOWELL Ltd 15 Aug 1973 [15 Aug 1972] 38027/72 Headings DID and D1F A yarn heater comprises a heater body 3 positioned between first and second driven rollers 1, 2, the first driven roller 1 being formed with two portions 4, 5 of different diameters, a nip roll 7 being provdied to cooperate with one of the portions 4, 5 to define a nip through which yarn 11 is positively advanced over the theater body 3 for the first time to the second driven roller 2. The yarn is preferably a textured yarn passing to the heater for modification of the crimp and the yarn passes in several loops around the rollers 1, 2 and heater body 3 which heater body preferably comprises two convex heater surfaces on opposite sides of the body. The yarn loops are separated by ceramic combs 19 or the rollers 1, 2 and/or heater body 3 may be grooved. The said one portion 4 is preferably of larger diameter than the other portion 5, and the portion 5 is of the same diameter as the second roller 2. Suitable drive belts are provided for the rollers 1 and 2. The two portions 4 and 5 of the roller 1 may be integral and rotate together. Alternatively, the roller 1 can comprise two portions which are rotatable independently suitable variable speed drive means being provided. The rollers I and 2 are arranged to overhang the heater body 3 at one edge so that the final loops of yarn are clear of the heater body and allowed to cool. The peripheral speeds of the rollers 1 and 2 are suitably chosen to give the desired underfeed or overfeed of the yarn 11 in its first passage over the heater body. In a further embodiment, two sets of first and second rollers and associated nip rollers and drive means, are provided for each heater body, the rollers being arranged in mirror-image about the heater body.
