Abstract

1,268,142. False-twist crimping. UNITIKA Ltd. 24 Sept., 1969 [18 July, 1969], No. 47124/ 69. Headings D1D and D1F. Two or more yarns containing thermoplastic material are false-twisted together, heat-set, separated and individually false-twisted in the same direction as the first twisting. The final false-twisting stage is stated to reduce the risk of yarn breakage during crimping. The apparatus (Fig. 7) comprises a heater (not shown) a twist-tube 25 for false-twisting the yarns together, a guide hole 21, rollers 7' and 8' and twist-tubes 27a, 27b for false-twisting the individual yarns. Alternatively (Fig. 5) the yarns may be twisted by frictional engagement with the peripheral surfaces of driven rotating discs 22, 23. In another arrangement (Fig. 2) the yarns pass through a driven ring 15, engaging one side thereof whilst twisted together, being separated at hole 21 in guide 14, and individually engaging the other side thereof. The ring 15 may have a rubber surface and a magnetic core, being rotated by a coaxial driven magnetic disc 19.
