Abstract

1430532 Mattresses &c. J BOS 3 Jan 1974 00165/74 Heading A4M A mattress or like support for a human body which facilitates ventilation of the body comprises a pluraltiy of polygonal elements 2 with flat upper surfaces 3, each element having a channel 4 extending parallel to the upper surface 3 between side faces, a hole 5 extending between the upper surface 3 and the channel 4, and a wire 8 or other flexible connecting member which binds the elements into a unitary assembly such that the channel 4 in each element communicates with channels in adjacent elements and the upper surfaces 3 of the elements form a substantially continuous surface. The wire 8 extends through holes 7 in the side faces 6 the wire passing to and fro through adjacent rows of staggered elements 2. The elements may be U-shaped as shown or box shaped Fig. 3 (not shown). The elements may be of non-elastic synthetic material. The flexible connecting member may comprise a sheet of fabric, rubber or plastic glued to the elements.
