Abstract
1429385 Sewing machine presser bar SINGER CO 17 Sept 1973 [3 Oct 1972] 43522/ 73 Heading D1G A presser bar pressure regulating device, readily removable from the sewing machine, comprises a mounting plate 28 securable to the machine frame by screws 29, a spring 56 on a support 30 engageable with the presser bar 16 to bias it endwise and means for manually varying the spring force, the means comprising a cam wheel 41 engaged by a cam follower 48 which itself engages the spring. The stud 30 engaged by the spring is rotatably mounted on the plate and presents a lever 37 having an abutment 39 engaged by an adjustable screw 53 carried at an extremity 51 of the lever 48 pivoted at 49 to the plate. Rotation of the cam wheel 41 swings levers 48, 37 to rotate stud 30 and the one end of the spring 56 engaged in a slot in the stud. The other end 58 of the spring engages a grooved wheel 23 mounted on a block 20 secured to the presser bar 13. Other forms of spring may be employed. The edge of the wheel 41 may carry indicia. A hand operable lever 24 may co-operate with an extension 21 in the block 20 to raise the bar.
