Abstract
1429027 Shopping trollies ROBLIN INDUSTRIES Inc 17 Dec 1973 58346/73 Heading B7B A shopping cart 10 has an end gate 41 pivotally mounted thereon and a latching mechanism 46 comprising interengageable members 97, 98 respectively provided on the side walls 34, 35 and the gate, the gate being movable vertically of the cart to allow for latching and unlatching. The gate is mounted for pivoting and vertical movement in slots 67 provided in bumper members 63 attached to the cart side walls and is provided at each side with a member 98. Each member 98 includes vertical portions 107 and 112, interconnected by a transverse horizontal portion 111, and a longitudinal horizontal portion 114. Members 97 at each side wall include horizontal portions 104, and forwardly extending ears 106. To close the gate it is pivoted and lifted so the portion 111 clears portion 104 and then lowered so that portion 112 rests on portion 104 thus supporting the gate. Ears 106 prevent the side walls from moving outwardly of the gate by engaging uprights 54 thereon. The cart is provided with a base frame 15 carrying a forwardly pivoted shelf 20 and an upper receptacle 23 which comprises a fixed rear section 24 and a forward upwardly and rearwardly pivoted section 26. The pivotal mounting of shelf 20 and section 26 allows the cart to be nested within a similar cart.
