Abstract

1422749 Repairing furnace linings QUIGLEY CO Inc 20 Aug 1973 [30 April 1973] 39362/73 Heading F4B A remote controlled vertical refractory gun 10 for repairing the linings of open-topped furnaces comprises a vertical conduit 22 carrying a distributing nozzle 26 and mounted in a bearing 46 in a control unit 24, a crank disc 66 and lever 72 producing an oscillating drive of the conduit 22, a magnetic clutch 50 and a timer 96A whereby the various movements of the gun can be initiated and controlled. The crank disc is driven by a motor 62 through reduction gearing 64 and the clutch 50 may be operated by a manual switch to disengage at one end of the travel of lever 72 and pick up at the other end in order to move the nozzle range arcuately. Refractory from a hopper 36 supplied dry through a line 34 mixes in a T-junction mixing head 58 with water from a line 30, the water being controlled by a valve (57, Figs. 2 and 3). In a modification (Fig. 11) the conduit 22 has a direct chain and sprocket drive from a reversible air motor in place of the clutch drive and its motor reversal may be automatic through the timer 96A, the latter having a manual override.
