1422193 Pharmaceutical compositions SMITH KLINE & FRENCH LABORATORIES Ltd 9 April 1974 [9 Jan 1973] 114/73 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical compositions useful in the treatment of magnesium-potassium depletion states comprise magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide or a non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable salt of magnesium (e.g. magnesium chloride, sulphate, gluconate, phosphate or carbonate) in combination with a non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable salt of potassium (e.g. potassium chloride), the equivalent weight of the magnesium being from 1 to 3 times the equivalent weight of the potassium, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier such that the rate of release of at least part of the magnesium and potassium into the digestive system is controlled. The compositions may comprise cores coated or formed of the medicament and an additional coating of slow release material such as glyceryl monostearate or beeswax, the coated cores being combined as a capsule, tablet or a suspension in a liquid. The compositions may also contain a diuretic or a cardiac glycoside.
