Abstract
1412020 Transport systems SIEMENS AG 7 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971 (2)] 56614/72 Heading B7L In a transport system, the vehicle at 44 has superconducting magnet coils 32-35 arranged thereon to co-operate with conductors 38, 39 and 46 of non-magnetic material and a ferromagnetic body 36 provided on the track at 40, so that the vehicle is suspended and guided relative to the track by electromagnetic interaction between the coils 32-35 and the body 36 (i.e. attractive force) and electrodynamic interaction between the coils 32-35 and the conductors 38, 39 and 46 (i.e. motion of the vehicle induces current in the conductors which are repelled to take up "zero-flux" positions midway between the associated coils). The conductors 38, 39, 46, which may be laminated plates, are arranged in a cross so that conductors 38 and 39 give vertical stabilization and conductor 46 gives horizontal stabilization. A further conductor 48 of non-magnetic material may be provided on the track above body 36 to assist in positioning the vehicle if the body 36 becomes magnetically saturated so that the coils 32-35 approach too close to body 36.
