Abstract

1473277 Gas filter A C WOOTTEN 25 Sept 1973 [15 Oct 1974 22 Sept 1975] 39377/ 75 Heading BIT [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] A gas filter comprises inward-flow filter bags or tubes, whose open ends are secured to respective collars E which project through apertures in tube sheet D, separating the clean and dirty chambers of a housing (not shown), each collar having a flange which is releasably clamped to the top of sheet D by a generally U-shaped spring (Fig. 2 not shown), pivoted to brackets G at its open end on one side of the collar and engageable by a pivoted clip C on the other side. Each limb of the spring has either one or two coils (springs B and A), and each coil comprises one or more complete turns. In the clamping position, clip C holds its spring under stress with the lower edges of its coils engaging the flange of the collar at two or four points. When clips C are released, the springs can be pivoted upwards to allow collars E and the filter bags/tubes thereon to be lifted out through the clean chamber. Each collar includes a gasket F engaging sheet D, the gasket compression being limited by metal to metal contact between the sheet D and collar flange. Collars E have venturi passages to facilitate reverse flow cleaning.
