1465401 Solid fuel heating appliance GLYNWED DOMESTIC & HEATING APPLIANCES Ltd 20 Jan 1975 [3 Jan 1974] 00216/74 Heading F4W A solid fuel heating appliance has a combustion chamber 1 with a front wall 2, a rear wall 3 and a grate 4 whith rear flue 6 leading to an exit 28. The front wall 2 is in the form of a frame which may be closed by a pivoting door assembly 11 and a window assembly 13. The rear wall 3 includes a secondary air passage defining plate 53 which is supported on the front wall 2 at an apex 54. Primary air for the combustion chamber 1 enters through the door 11 (or leaks in when the door is closed) and products of primary combustion pass by way of the flue 6 into a combustion space 48. Secondary air enters through an aperture 55 and passes along the passage 49 in the rear wall on either side of the cleaning access door 64. Warmed secondary air exits from the lower part of the passageway 49 into the lower part of the combustion chamber 1 and is drawn into the combustion space 48 where it mixes with primary combustion products to burn away any smoke that may be present. Smoke escaping from the front of the appliance through the door 11 is drawn by the secondary air down the passage 49 or passes via the opening 33 into the outlet 28. The window assembly 13 may include a plurality of glass tubes 22.
