Abstract

1455670 Sterile package TRAVENOL LABORATORIES Inc 20 June 1974 [1 Aug 1973] 27339/74 Headings B8C and B8K A sterile package comprises a first sterile article 28 in a first pouch formed by folding the edges 16 of a first plastics sheet 12 inwardly to lie adjacent one-another, and a second sterile article 30 in a second pouch formed between the first sheet 12 and a second sheet 20 of semipermeable, bacteria-impermeable material, e.g. paper, which overlies the area in which the edges 16 are disposed. The two pouches may be formed by heat sealing, leaving one end of the package unsealed for the subsequent insertion of the articles. After sealing the open end, the package and contents are sterilized by a gas passing through the sheet 20 and the package then evacuated. The package is opened by pulling the sheet 20, thus exposing the article 30 which may be a glove. A gloved hand may enter between the edges 16 to remove the article 28 which may be a catheter. A collapsible container 32 may also be located in the second pouch.
