Abstract

1452738 Binding rings GRASTELLA Ltd 15 Oct 1973 [15 July 1972 19 Jan 1973] 33211/72 and 2852/73 Heading B6E A binding ring has two spaced post members connected together at their lower ends by a web 14 and securable to the cover of a loose leaf binder, and a substantially arcuate member pivotably connected to one of the post members so as to be pivotable about a single axis which is not parallel to the plane of the web 14, and connectible to the other post member to close the ring. In a first embodiment the post members are hollow cylinders 12, 13 secured to the cover 16 by pins 22 mounted on a member 18. The arcuate member 32 has an extension 34 pivotably held in the cylinder 12. Locking means comprising cylindrical or wedge-shaped snap fasteners 36 on the arcuate member 32 and cylinder 13 hold the ring, which may be of plastics material, in the closed position. The pins 22 may be held by vacuum in the cylinders 12, 13. In a second embodiment, the pivotable connection is formed by a thinned down portion (52), Fig. 6 (not shown), constituting a hinge between one of the cylinders (42) and an integral arcuate member (48). The cylindrical members and connecting web may be adhered or sonically welded to the cover. The binding rings may be of the fold away type in which case the cylinders are either removably secured on studs attached to the cover or attached to a web (62), Fig. 9 (not shown), hingeably connected to a member (68) attached to the cover.
