1451107 Vices PURPOSE ENGS Ltd 16 May 1974 [25 May 1973] 25100/73 Heading B3B A vice comprises a base 12 and a slide 20 providing respectively a stationary jaw 22 and a movable jaw 21, a lead screw 1 cooperable with the base 12 to effect a manual adjustment of the jaw 21, and an hydraulic ram unit 11 mounted on the lead screw to move the jaw 21 independently of the screw for clamping a workpiece. The ram 11 is loosely mounted on the screw so as not to rotate as the screw is turned manually. When the ram is extended an intermediate body portion 27 is forced forward to compress a spring 9 to move the jaw 21 relative to the screw 1.
