1363177 Vices A RIGGIO 24 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971 7 Sept 1972] 48838/72 Heading B3B A pneumatically operated clamping device, e.g. a vice, comprises a fixed jaw 2 and a movable jaw unit which is adjustable on guides 3 by a screw 13 and which is made up of a part 5 which is held stationary by the screw and a part 6 which carries the movable jaw 4 and which is moved relative to the part 5 against a spring member 7 by means of a wedge 10 actuated by a pneumatic piston-cylinder 8, 9. The wedge 10 operates between a pair of rollers 11, 12, or through multiple rollers, roller bearings or other roller friction reducing arrangements.
