Abstract

1441858 Tape dispensers SINGER CO 7 Oct 1974 [9 Oct 1973] 43321/74 Heading B8M In a printing, e.g. postage mailing, machine, a printing tape supply roll 12 is stored loosely within an open-sided compartment 14, resting on and against walls 18, 16. When the tape is withdrawn, advanced to a printing and cutting station (not shown) and then retracted, the sudden acceleration and deceleration of the roll movement is braked and dampened by the combined effect of the roll running up an inclined, resilient, spring 24 retained ramp 18 and a vertical braking plate in a bracket 22. Unnecessary unwinding of the roll and tape spillage and entanglements in the compartment are thus avoided. Tape 12 passes (and is initially threaded-up) around roller 26 and between manually operable friction rollers 30, 32.
