Abstract

1287039 Automatic tension control SIEMENS AG 18 Feb 1970 [19 Feb 1969] 7705/70 Heading G3R [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for regulating the tension in a web, e.g. printing paper, fed from a supply roll to a utilization device, e.g. a high speed printer, comprises a no-current operating electromagnetic brake which acts on the supply roll spindle in dependence upon web-tension variations as sensed by a tensioning device engaging a storage loop in the web, Fig.1 (not shown). The tensioning device comprises a roller 42 mounted on a pivoted arm 40 loaded by a spring 20 which is secured to the arm 40 in such a manner that a line connecting the spring attachment point and the pivot point of the arm makes an acute angle with the arm. The tensioning device is associated with switches determining upper and lower operating values, and the switching circuit may include a relay or a capacitor to introduce a time-delay into the switching operation. Modified tension devices are described with reference to Figs. 6, 7 and 9 (not shown).
