Abstract

1337389 Pyrimidine derivatives IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 Dec 1970 [10 Dec 1969] 60323/69 Heading C2C Novel 2 - amino - 4 - hydroxy pyrimidines of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is an aryl or aralkyl group, R<SP>11</SP> is a C 1-8 alkyl group, and R 5 and R 6 (which are the same or different) are C 1-8 alkyl groups, and salts thereof, are prepared by reacting a guanidine of formula (or a salt thereof) with a keto ester of formula R 6 CO.CHR 5 .CO 2 R<SP>111</SP>, where R<SP>111</SP> is a C 1-8 alkyl group, in the presence of a base. The novel pyrimidines wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a benzyl or alkylbenzyl group may be reduced with H 2 in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to form a 2 - alkylamino - 4 - hydroxypyrimidine such as described in Specification 1,182,584 and 1,223,686.
