Abstract
1335110 Bucket-type centrifuge DAMON CORP 9 Nov 1971 [7 Jan 1971] 51863/71 Heading B2P A centrifuge rotor 16 has a number of evenly circumferentially-spaced chambers each comprising (a) a socket 18 extending from the top surface of the rotor and having an internal cylindrical surface terminating in a spherical section 25, (b) a slot 19 in communication with the socket 18 and extending from the peripheral surface 20 and the bottom surface of the rotor, the inside profile of the slot corresponding generally to the rotation of a cylindrical section through an arc of 90‹ about an axis at right angles to the axis A of the cylindrical section and intersecting the axis of the socket 18 at right angles thereto, the point B of intersection being below the centre of the socket spherical section 25, and (c) a spherical seat 26 leading from the socket 18 to the slot 19 and having its centre along the horizontal cylindrical axis of the slot so that the angle between the axis of the rotor and a line between the centres of the spherical section 25 of the socket 18 and the seat 26 is between 55 and 90‹. Buckets 10 are placed in the rotor by inserting each bucket, tubular portion 11 down, through the correspondng socket 18 and slot 19 so that a spherical flange 15 on the bucket is seated in the spherical section 25 of the socket or in the spherical seat 26. when the rotor is spun the flange 15 of each bucket slides along the seat 26 allowing the bucket to pivot to the horizontal position being supported by portions of the seat 26. Each bucket is provided with a threaded cap 14 and its tubular portion may be externally tapered.
