Abstract
1334707 Preparing anthraquinone compounds IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 July 1971 [13 Aug 1970] 39103/70 Heading C4P Compounds of the general formula wherein R is H or OH and the anthraquinone nucleus may be further substituted are prepared by reacting the corresponding 1-amino-2- hydroxymethyl-anthraquinone with oxygen, e.g. O 2 optionally diluted with inert nitrogen or air in an alkaline medium, e.g. aqueous sodium carbonate or sodium or potassium hydroxides optionally admixed with a water miscible organic liquid, e.g. #-ethoxyethanol and pyridine. The reaction takes place at 20‹ C. to the boiling point of the reaction medium.
