Abstract

1,140,659. Chlorophenoxy compounds. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 1 Aug., 1967 [24 Aug., 1966], No. 35286/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] 2 - (2,4,5 - Trichlorophenoxy) tetrahydropyran is prepared by reacting 2,4,5-trichlorophenol and dihydropyran in benzene as solvent and using naphthalene sulphonic acid as catalyst. The resulting reaction mixture is washed with dilute sodium carbonate solution and dried over magnesium sulphate to give an orange oil, <SP>n</SP>D<SP>30</SP>1À5408. Other compounds of the formula wherein X is a hydrogen or chlorine atom, R is a C 1-4 alkyl group and R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-6 alkyl group or R and R<SP>1</SP> form a C 3-4 alkylene radical are obtained by analagous methods.
