Abstract

1332876 Isostatic hot pressing superalloy powders CRUCIBLE Inc 20 Dec 1971 [30 April 1971] 59202/71 Heading C7D Superalloy powders with an average grain size of 20 micron maximum and containing dispersed gamma prime particles are heated to below the gamma prime soluus temperature and isostatically compacted to a minimum of 95% theoretical density. Ni superalloy powders - 30 mesh, such as ASTROLOY (TRADE MARK), hiaspalloy and IN- 100 are placed in a hollow container which is degassed at 500‹F. and then the powder and container is heated under vacuum or an inert gas to the selected compacting temperature which should be no lower than 400‹F/below the gamma prime soluus temperature which is usually 1600-2300‹F The powder is then isostatically pressed in an autoclave using He, A or N 2 as the pressure medium. The compact can then be hot worked preferably below the gamma prime soluus temperature. The compact may also be heat treated above or below the gamma prime soluus temperature to increase the creep and creep rupture strength on the yield strength respectively.
