Abstract
1330021 Microwave devices GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 5 June 1972 [5 March 1971] 6114/71 Heading H1W A microwave power-limiting device for waves of a predetermined frequency consists of a transmission structure including a resonant cavity most of which at least is filled with a ferrite, the device having a band-pass characteristic at a centre frequency which at normal power levels is equal to the predetermined frequency. The ferrite material is chosen so that above normal power levels the centre frequency shifts significantly while the Cl-factor changes only slightly so that the pre-determined frequency then lies outside the pass-band. The ferrite may have at least two faces coated with metal. A constant magnetic field may be applied to tune the device. Examples of suitable ferrites are: for the S-band Y 3 Fe 4 AlO 12 and for the X- band Y 3 Fe 5 O 12 or Mg 1À1 Mn 0À1 Fe 2 O 4 .
