Abstract
1329328 Continuous casting KUIBYSHEVSKY METALLURGICHESKY ZAVOD IMENI V I LENINA 15 Nov 1971 53010/71 Heading B3F An annular inductor 7 (for producing an electromagnetic field to shape molten metal while it solidifies into a casting 3) is located in a coolant header 1 from which the coolant (water) discharges through holes 5; an electricallyconductive shield 6, for reducing the intensity of the electromagnetic field in the region of the upper end of the ingot, is secured to the header 1. A starter 4 supports the casting 3 and is lowered as it forms. Turbulence of the coolant is reduced by a partition 8. In a modification, the partition 8 extends from the bottom of the header 1 near its inner wall and the inductor 7 is located against the partition. The shield 6 is inside the header.
