1290758 Continuous casting KUIBYSHEVSKY METALLURGICHESKY ZAVOD IMENI V I LENINA 23 June 1970 [24 June 1969] 30321/70 Heading B3F For mouldless continuous casting, molten metal such as Al or Al alloy is fed from openings 6 of a cup 4 into an inductor ring 12 producing an alternating magnetic field which confines the metal to a required cross-sectional shape until there is solidification by cooling by liquid (water) from perforations 14 is an annular tube 15, the tube being movable vertically, e.g. by rack-and-pinion devices 15, 16 to accommodate the casting speed of a particular metal being cast. In order to check that the liquidsolid interface of the metal is at the correct level in the inductor 12, a feeler 23 is lowered into the melt bath B and the height of the coolant tube 13 is changed or not, accordingly. An annular, water-cooled, electromagnetic screen 9 for distributing the magnetic field axially is mounted by screws 11 on the plate 10 from which the cooling ring 13 is suspended. Initially the melt is applied to the top of a starter plate 8 which is lowered bearing the solidifying metal A, and then the cup 4 is installed.
