Abstract

1324591 Waistbands INDUSTRIAL SEALANTS Ltd 17 June 1970 [18 June 1969 (2)] 30920/69 and 30921/69 Heading A3V [Also in Divisions B5 and Dl] An elastic band is secured to the margin of a flexible fibrous substrate by a stretchable adhesive bond such that the substrate is rouched when the band is relaxed, whereby the band and substrate can be stretched at least until the substrate is not rouched without rupturing the bond, the substrate being folded over the band and adhesively secured to form a hem. The construction is of particular use for disposable knickers and pants. The elastic band may be secured in stretched condition within a folded-over portion of the substrate, e.g. by heated rollers, and may comprise a strip or thread. The adhesive bond may be provided by coating the surface of the band with heatsensitive or pressure-sensitive adhesive or by melting the surface of a band made of thermoplastic material. The band may be supplied in conjunction with pressure-sensitive adhesive from a backing sheet to which it has been bonded in pre-stretched condition; tape constructions of this nature are disclosed in Specification 1324592.
